FAQ

The Member Death Benefit Indemnity is a group life cover programme arranged by Phoenix Credit Union and underwritten by Aviva Life & Pensions Ireland DAC.
It provides:
  • A fixed €3,500 payment when a member covered by the programme dies
  • Guaranteed acceptance for eligible members – no medicals required
  • Cover designed to help with funeral and related costs
The programme has been introduced by the Board of Phoenix Credit Union to help ensure members can continue to access a meaningful death benefit into the future.

You can join the Member Death Benefit Indemnity programme if you:

  • Are between 6 months and 71 years of age
  • Are an active member of Phoenix Credit Union
  • Are the first or second-named holder on an account covered by Life Savings Insurance
  • Hold a minimum of €380 in shares
Once you join and continue to meet the eligibility requirements, your cover will remain in place each year, subject to annual renewal of the programme.

For an annual cost of €84, the programme offers:

• A lump sum benefit of €3,500, subject to terms and conditions
• No medical questions
• Optional participation
• Annual cover, not whole of life cover
• Cover renewed annually, subject to programme renewal

  • The death benefit payable is a fixed sum of €3,500
  • The benefit is paid to the Credit Union and then credited to the member’s account
This benefit amount may be reviewed by the insurer at renewal time, but any changes will always be communicated to members in advance.
  • The programme runs on an annual basis
  • The cost of the cover is paid once per year and is deducted directly from your credit union share account
  • Your credit union pays the insurer on your behalf
If the programme is renewed each year and you remain eligible, your cover will automatically renew.
If you join part-way through the year, a reduced (pro‑rata) fee applies depending on when you opt in.
It’s important to maintain enough funds in your share account to cover the fee, as cover will cease if the cost cannot be collected.
  • The programme operates on a calendar year basis (1 January to 31 December)
  • This new programme started on 1 July 2026

Entry into the programme will be automatically renewed each year on 1st January, provided the member has a minimum share balance of €380.

Yes. You can opt out of the programme at any time by providing written notice to the Credit Union.
If you leave during a programme year:
  • You will receive a refund of any unused portion of the annual fee
  • The programme has no cash or surrender value
  • This is not a savings product and does not build up a balance
  • The programme provides cover only while you are an eligible member and fees are fully paid
  • Certain exclusions apply, including death as a result of war, certain illnesses in the first 6 months, suicide within the first 12 months, or criminal activity
Full terms and conditions are available in the Member Key Facts & Policy Summary document.
